Frequently Asked Questions
Is DropNote really private?
Yes. We are confident in asserting that DropNote is both private and secure, and we are committed to making sure it remains that way. Please read our Privacy Policy for complete details on how we protect your data.
How do I send my note?
DropNote gives you a unique, private link to your note. You must copy that link and paste it into an email, instant message, or any other communication channel to send it to the person you want to read the note.
Can I send a note to multiple people?
Yes. The "Destroy on read" option will delete the note after the very first view. If you want multiple people to be able to see the note, choose a timed destruction option instead, like "Destroy after 1 hour." The note will then be available for anyone with the link until that time expires.
What if I regret sending a note or send it to the wrong person?
You can destroy the note yourself. Simply copy the link, paste it into your own browser's address bar, and view the note. If it was set to "Destroy on read," it will be instantly deleted. When the other person tries to open the link, they will see a message that the note has already been destroyed.
Can I know when the note is read?
Currently, DropNote does not offer read receipts or email notifications. We prioritize simplicity and minimizing the amount of data we handle, including email addresses. The "Destroy on read" feature ensures the note is gone after the first view, giving you peace of mind.
The recipient can copy the note, so it doesn't really self-destruct, right?
Correct. DropNote cannot prevent a recipient from taking a screenshot, copying the text, or even memorizing the note. Our purpose is not to control what happens to the information after it's been read. Our promise is to ensure the note is securely delivered and that no trace of it remains on our servers afterward. What the recipient does with the note is their responsibility.
Can a read note be seen again using the browser's back button or history?
No. Once a note set to "Destroy on read" is viewed, it is permanently deleted from our servers. The link becomes invalid, and there is no way to access the note again.
How long are unread notes stored on your servers?
Any note without a specific timer is automatically and permanently deleted after 30 days of inactivity. This ensures that no data is stored indefinitely. For more information, please see our Privacy Policy.
